Reports to: Operations Manager

American Wood Fibers (AWF), a rapidly growing manufacturer of consumer and industrial products sold to other manufacturers and to pet, agricultural and home heating markets, seeks a Maintenance Manager in Jessup, MD. AWF manufactures at 11 locations spanning the nation, has approximately 450 employees, and generates over $100M in annual sales.

MAINTENANCE

Plans, schedules, directs and supervises daily activities of maintenance department, to include plant/mobile equipment and trailer fleet. Maintains an effective preventive maintenance program to minimize unscheduled downtime and keep plant operating at maximum efficiency. Handles major repairs as needed in an economical manner. Accountable for maintenance department and trailer fleet costs including effective use of man-hours, skills, machines, equipment, and facilities. Performs hands-on maintenance duties as needed.

Makes timely purchases of maintenance materials, parts, supplies, and equipment at the most competitive pricing.

Interview, hire and coordinates staffing and labor requirements. Supports proper cross training of personnel within the department. Assigns task, project work and preventive and predictive maintenance utilizing computer maintenance management system (CMMS).

Supports plant leadership with other initiatives as assigned.

SAFETY AND ADMINISTRATION

Responsible for the safety, cleanliness and organization of the maintenance department. Initiates regular communications with shift supervisors regarding safety concerns related to machines, mobile equipment, etc. Coordinates and administers company safety policies as they relate to the maintenance department and the plant in general. Report and resolve items regarding safety regulations and standards.

Supports plant safety training that could include preparation and conducting monthly safety meetings. Establishes personal goals and works with fellow employees towards continuous improvement and teamwork.

QUALITY

Maintains and verifies that all current quality assurance measures are being followed and communicated to supervisors, production employees, truck drivers, office personnel, and customers. Assists in the design and implementation of new procedures as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • 5 years of industrial maintenance experience (manufacturing).
  • Prior supervisory experience preferred.
  • Exceptional organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems.
  • PLC programming and troubleshooting is preferred.
